Can Apps Change The World?

New research shows that young people are not only using apps to campaign on the issues that matter to them, they also believe that social media is vital for bringing about change.
From #metoo to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, there’s no shortage of examples of movements online that have made a positive change in the real world.
The poll of 2,000 young people found that

  • Nearly two-thirds see social media platforms as an essential part of achieving social change.
  • More than half of 35 to 50-year-olds agree (55%).

Meanwhile, the two bosses of Instagram have quit. Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger started the site in 2010. They sold the photo sharing app to Facebook six years ago for a billion dollars, but continued to run the site. Now they say it’s time for new beginnings.
